The Iona College Campus Quad

Martin B. Daly '74

The presentation skills learned and the mass communication courses Martin took at Iona prepared him for a lifetime career at the CBS Television Network Sales & Marketing Division. The ability to communicate clearly in formal, large group, advertising pitches as well as in small team persuasion meetings was a direct result of his Iona College education.

He began work at CBS Network Sales when there were only three television networks and an entry-level clerical position was a classic "foot in the door" opportunity. Over the course of an almost 44-year working life at CBS, he retired in January 2018 as the senior vice president and director of Network News & Late Night Sales. His team was responsible for marketing & selling the network commercial time in the CBS Evening News, CBS This Morning, Face the Nation and CBS Sunday Morning programs. His team also did the same for the late night programs hosted by David Letterman, then Stephen Colbert as well as James Corden.

He has been working with Iona College Students for over 10 years as a Mentor and helped three recent graduates start their careers at CBS. In July of 2018, he returned to Iona as executive-in-residence in the School of Arts & Science. He has enjoyed working with the current students and taught a broadcast advertising media course in the January 2019 winter session. He is going to continue to give back to the Iona community by joining the Iona College Alumni Association Board of Directors!
