Women of Achievement Award Recipient

During a career spanning more than 30 years, Cathy McCabe has been a senior financial services executive who drove business results, ensured regulatory compliance, and optimized organizations. Her values-based leadership engendered high-performing teams, and developed effective leaders. She was a strong sponsor of diversity, equity and inclusion and a proponent of achieving results the right way and in the clients’ best interests.

Over the course of her career, she pursued her passion of improving the financial lives of individuals and their families. Under her leadership, her team helped more than 1.5 million individuals achieve and exceed their goals, to and through retirement. She is a cited media and industry expert, called upon to speak on subjects from women’s financial empowerment to preparing for retirement and more.

The daughter of an Iona professor and Iona’s Registrar, Cathy was drawn to TIAA, a mission- and values-based Fortune 100 financial services organization. The company is a leading provider of asset management and retirement planning services for the academic, medical, research and cultural fields. Both her parents were TIAA clients.
In January 2020, Cathy retired as Senior Managing Director, TIAA Financial Solutions, where she and her team were responsible for driving client-facing business policies and processes, and supporting and enhancing the customer experience. For a decade, she led a national high-performing team of over 350 financial advisors, focused on improving individuals’ financial well-being. Prior to this role, she was Vice President for the Northeast region, and led a team of financial professionals responsible for serving more than 400 institutions and their employees in the company’s largest region measured by assets under management. Cathy held a variety of leadership and individual contributor client-facing roles throughout her 32-year career. Prior to TIAA, Cathy was a member of the International Tax Department at Price Waterhouse.

While her bottom-line impact was clear, Cathy also excelled in making a difference in changing how groups with specialized needs for financial planning were served. She was the executive sponsor of innovative TIAA financial literacy and education programs developed and delivered to serve the needs of diverse individuals and groups, including women, the Hispanic and Latino communities, millennials, and the LGBTQ community.

Cathy graduated from Iona College, summa cum laude, earning a BA in English. As a FINRA registered representative and principal, she holds Series 7, 51, 63, and 24 registrations while maintaining Life, Health and Variable Annuity licenses from the State of New York and has obtained the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) professional designation. She also serves as a member of Iona College’s Women’s Advisory Board.

Cathy is a philanthropist focused on education, eradicating hunger, and supporting LGBTQ rights. She is a member of Chief (, a private network of women senior executives dedicated to supporting the growth of women in leadership across industries.

She resides in Hoboken, N.J. with her partner, Jill.
