Senator Edward R. Reilly '72

The Brother Arthur A. Loftus Award for Outstanding Achievement

Edward Reilly graduated in June 1972 with a BBA degree in Banking and Finance. He went to work for Con Ed in Manhattan. A graduate of Essex Catholic High School in Newark, NJ, it was part of the Iona pipeline which gave Ed and his brother Bob ’70 their opportunity to attend Iona. 

Ed is third from a family of nine children who grew up in Glen Ridge, NJ. In 1973, one of Ed’s best friend Marty Madden ’71 encouraged Ed and his new family, Cathy and 4 month old Rachel to relocate to Greenbelt, Md. That was the start of a family which has grown to four children and 10 grandchildren.

In Maryland, Ed entered into the insurance industry starting his 47 year career as a sales representative, district sales manager then back to his own agency where his is still active.  

Following Marty who served three terms in the Maryland General Assembly, Ed “threw his hat in the ring.” Ed served two terms on the Anne Arundel County Council, including two years as Chairman and two years as Vice Chairman. Then he took the next step to serve three terms as a Maryland State Senator representing Central Anne Arundel County, near Annapolis. This is the final year of this 20 year career in service to the citizens of Maryland.
