Darcy M. Katris, Esq., ’82


Darcy Katris is a partner at Morrison Cohen LLP, where she co-chairs the Family Office Group. She has more than 25 years of experience advising clients in complex trust, estate, and tax issues. Her practice includes estate and tax planning, drafting wills and trust agreements, administering estates and trusts, and representing clients in Surrogate’s Court. She also handles the formation of family limited liability companies and advises trust companies on fiduciary issues. 

Darcy has a specific niche in advising clients with art collections. Her art-related estate planning experience includes forming a museum, negotiating with auction houses to sell artwork, advising clients on ways to display an art collection through a foundation, and administering estates with very substantial art collections being sold at auction, including the estate of Robert H. Ellsworth.

Darcy has held leadership roles in many professional organizations throughout her career. As co-chair of the New York State Bar Association Joint Elder Law/Trusts and Estate Sections Task Force, she evaluated pending legislative proposals related to the COVID-19 pandemic. She is a member at large of the New York State Bar Association’s Trusts and Estates Law Section, a member of the Executive Committee, and chair of the Digital Wills Committee. In addition, Darcy is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and a member of the Professional Advisors Council for Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. 

Darcy was included on the list of Best Lawyers in America® for Trusts and Estates in 2022 and was recognized by New York Super Lawyers every year from 2012 to 2021. She was shortlisted for the Citywealth Powerwomen Awards in the category of “Woman of the Year – Business Growth (Large/Institutional)” in 2021.

Darcy received a J.D., cum laude, from Fordham University School of Law and a B.S., magna cum laude, from Iona College. A proud Iona alumna, Darcy has served as a keynote speaker at student induction ceremonies and participated in Iona’s “Meet a Career Mentor” event for several years. She was a member of the Iona College Alumni Association Board of Directors from 2017 to 2021.
