The Iona College Campus Quad

Phillip N. Maisano '76MBA

A classic “baby boomer” born after World War II, Phillip was educated in mostly Catholic schools by a variety of nuns, priests, monks and brothers. Major contributors include Seton Hall Preparatory, Belmont Abbey College, Iona College, NY Law School and Columbia University.

Phillip is the son of first generation Italian American parents who took great pride in fostering the generational climb of their children by embedding a strong work ethic.

Began his career in financial services in the management training program at the Equitable with small interruptions for active military service in the NJ Army National Guard (first lieutenant, Armor Branch) with reserve duty following for almost a decade.
Phillip is married to his college sweetheart (Mary-Alice) who supported his career and raised two great sons (P.J. and Matthew) “with less help from less help from [Phillip] than she deserved.” Over the last several years, they have added three grandchildren to their clan (Anna, Matthew and Madison).

Phillip spent ten years with Equitable capped by extensive experience in pension investment operation. This led to jobs with MONY Financial Services and ultimately his involvement in a management buyout of EACM Advisors where he served as CEO for almost 15 years until it was sold to Mellon Bank. After the Mellon/Bank of New York merger, he was absorbed into the infrastructure of the parent company. Ultimately, Phillip served as Chief Investment Strategist of BNY Mellon as well as Vice Chairman and Chief Investment Officer of the Dreyfus Corporation. Phillip retired from those positions several years back and subsequently spent time as a senior advisor with Van Eck Mutual Funds and Aberdeen Standards Investments.

Phillip is now helping to run a classic car storage business (Motorcar Manor in Ramsey, NJ) as well as a real estate business (Motorcar Realty Holdings). He expects to be busy for some years to come.

A true “Jersey Guy”, he was born in Newark, N.J. raised in Union, N.J. and has been living in Montvale, N.J. since the 70s. Additionally, the Maisanos have homes in Ludlow, V.T. and Ocala, Fla.
